What this is
Level 2 charging is the standard home EV charging mode — 240V at 16–80A, delivering 3.8–19.2 kW depending on the charger and circuit. There's a wide field of Level 2 chargers on the market: the Tesla Wall Connector (covered on its own page), ChargePoint Home Flex, Wallbox Pulsar Plus, JuiceBox, Grizzl-E Smart, Enphase IQ EV Charger, and others.
We're brand-neutral on installation. If you've picked a charger, we install it. If you haven't, we'll talk through the options at the free inspection — based on your EV, your budget, your charge-speed needs, smart-features preference, and whether you have or plan to have solar.
The install itself is similar across brands: a dedicated circuit run from panel to charger location, mounting, commissioning, and the building permit + inspection. The wire gauge and breaker size follow from the charger amperage you choose — and whether your panel can carry that amperage is the first thing we check.

What's the difference between the Wall Connector and other Level 2 chargers?
The Tesla Wall Connector delivers up to 48A continuous. ChargePoint Home Flex tops out at 50A and Wallbox Pulsar Plus at 48A. Smart features vary — ChargePoint and Wallbox have stronger app ecosystems; the Wall Connector is simpler. For most homes any of these works fine. If you haven't picked one yet, we usually recommend the Tesla Universal Wall Connector, which charges any EV.
I have solar — does that change which charger to pick?
Slightly. The Enphase IQ EV Charger integrates directly with Enphase solar systems for charging keyed to solar production. ChargePoint and Wallbox also offer solar-aware scheduling. If you have a strong solar setup and want to charge mostly on your own excess production, an integrated ecosystem can be worth the small premium — it pairs well with how NEM 3.0 rewards self-consumption.
Smart features — what's actually worth paying for?
App control is the essential one — time-of-use scheduling on PG&E's EV rate plans is where home charging saves real money. Charging history is useful but not critical. Solar integration matters if you have solar. Dynamic load management helps tight-panel homes. Most of the rest is nice-to-have.
Will my existing panel support the charger?
Same load calculation as any big continuous load. On a 100A service it usually comes down to whether the house has central AC or electric cooking; if it does, even a small charger often needs a panel upgrade first. We check at the free inspection, and the EV panel guide shows the math.
Do I need a permit?
Yes — every building department in Santa Cruz County requires a permit for Level 2 EV charger installation. We pull the permit and coordinate the inspection; the cost is built into the quote.
