01·Frequently asked questions
About Sunrise
Who founded Sunrise?
Sunrise is a Santa Cruz County electrical contractor — founded in 2022 by Branden H. The whole company is built around service work for existing homes — see About for the founder story.
Where does the company name come from?
Sunrise = “where the day starts.” Santa Cruz County faces east into the Monterey Bay; sunrise is when the coastal light is at its best. The name is local + literal.
Are you a family-owned business?
Yes — owned and operated by Branden H. Not a franchise, not part of a national chain, not VC-backed. Family-run + locally accountable.
02·Frequently asked questions
Free inspection + scheduling
Is the free inspection actually free?
Yes — see the free inspection page for the full offer. No hidden fees, no obligation to schedule work afterward.
How fast can I book?
Usually much sooner than you'd expect — often the same day, depending on what you're calling about. Most work lands on the calendar within days, not weeks. Free inspections are usually a faster lead time than service work since they're shorter on-site.
What's your response time?
During business hours (Mon-Fri 8am-5pm PT), we respond quickly — usually well within the same day. Non-emergency after-hours requests get a response the morning of the next business day. Genuine after-hours electrical emergencies are answered around the clock by our answering service and routed to the on-call electrician.
Do you offer evening or weekend appointments?
Standard scheduling is Mon-Fri 8am-5pm. We can sometimes accommodate Saturday morning appointments for service work; weekend emergency calls are answered around the clock — our answering service reaches the on-call electrician.
03·Frequently asked questions
Pricing + financing
How much does a typical service cost?
You get a written number before any work starts — always. We don't publish price ranges on the site yet: we won't put up a range until it's derived from enough verified completed-job data to be honest, and we'd rather quote your actual job than show a teaser number. See Methodology for the standard published ranges will have to meet. The free inspection or quote process gets you a real price, usually the same visit.
Do you offer financing?
Yes — through GoGreen Home (a California state-backed loan program for clean energy + electrical safety upgrades). Eligibility depends on the project — GoGreen covers qualifying energy-efficiency upgrades, and panel work when it's tied to one. You choose your lender inside the GoGreen portal; we're not part of that selection. We'll tell you straight whether your project qualifies.
Are quotes free?
Yes — every quote is free, and we don't pressure you to schedule work. We give you a quote so you have real information to make a decision; what you do with it is up to you.
Do you accept credit cards?
Yes — Visa / Mastercard / Discover / Amex via our payment processor. We also accept ACH transfers, checks, and financing through GoGreen Home.
04·Frequently asked questions
Service area + scope
What's your service area?
Sunrise serves Santa Cruz County — Davenport to Pajaro Dunes, coast to mountains. See Areas for the full list.
Will you come to my home outside Santa Cruz County?
Sunrise serves Santa Cruz County. If you're outside the county, find a CSLB-licensed electrician in your area and verify the license at cslb.ca.gov.
Do you do commercial electrical work?
No — Sunrise is residential only. For commercial work, you'd want an electrician who specializes in commercial.
Do you do new construction?
No — Sunrise is a service business for existing homes. New construction is a different operational rhythm; we're optimized for the homes you already live in.
05·Frequently asked questions
Warranty + after the work
How long is your warranty?
20-year workmanship warranty on every installation. Transferable to the next homeowner. See warranty for full terms.
What does the warranty cover?
Our workmanship — the quality of how we did the work. Installation labor, defects in our installation, Sunrise-installed materials. See the warranty page for what's covered + what's not.
What if I sell my house — does the warranty transfer?
Yes, with written assignment to the new owner. The warranty period continues from the original install date — it doesn't reset on transfer.
06·Frequently asked questions
Safety + emergencies
What counts as an electrical emergency?
Sparks, burning smell, smoke from an outlet or panel, exposed live wires, a hot or warm panel/breaker, melted wiring, or no power to the house. Call us at (831) 786-5506. Emergency calls are answered around the clock — our answering service reaches the on-call electrician.
What should I do during a power outage?
If it's a PG&E outage: wait for PG&E. If it's a Sunrise install we did: call us. If you have a generator or battery: use them per the manufacturer instructions.
What about during a PSPS (Public Safety Power Shutoff)?
PG&E shuts off power proactively during fire-risk windows. There's no electrical fix during PSPS — but if you have a generator or battery, we set them up to take over. See backup power for the options.
Do you handle insurance claims?
We work with your insurance carrier on damage claims (fire, lightning, water) — we provide the assessment, the repair quote, and the documentation. The claim itself is between you and your carrier.
07·Frequently asked questions
Quality of service
Will the same tech always come to my house?
For most jobs, yes — we schedule by tech assignment. For larger jobs, multiple techs may work the project. We tell you who's coming, and you can ask for a specific tech on follow-up work.
How do you handle cleanup?
Drop cloths down. Materials hauled away. Dust vacuumed up. Space left the way we found it — better, actually. We don't do drywall repair (that's a finish-contractor job), but we leave the work area clean.
What if I'm not happy with the work?
Tell us. We'll come back and make it right. If we can't make it right, we'll refund the labor portion of the invoice. We've had this happen rarely; we'd rather hear about a problem and fix it than have a customer post a 1-star review.
