What's in this number

This runs the standard method from CEC Article 220, Part III — the same calculation that goes on a permit. General lighting and receptacles are taken at 3 VA per square foot, plus the small-appliance and laundry circuits the code counts whether or not they are there, then the demand table applies: the first 3,000 VA at 100% and the remainder at 35%. Four or more fastened appliances are taken at 75%. Heating and cooling are compared and only the larger is carried. EV charging is added at full value outside the demand factors, at the greater of 7,200 VA or the charger nameplate. The largest motor gets 25% added back. The result is divided by 240 volts to give amps.
