02·About electrical work in Aptos

Aptos covers a lot of ground — from the beach at Rio del Mar up to the hills above the highway. The electrical reality changes as you go inland.

Down at the beach (Rio del Mar, Seacliff): salt-air corrosion on panels, beach cottages from the 50s–70s with often-undersized service, vacation rentals under the County's Vacation Rental Ordinance. We do a lot of panel relocations + coastal-rated replacements here.

Aptos Village and the flat areas closer to the highway: mostly mid-century ranches + newer developments. The electrical stock varies widely — some homes have 200A panels already, some are still on 100A. EV charger demand is high; most of our Aptos EV jobs start with a panel-capacity conversation.

Up in Aptos Hills + Larkin Valley: bigger lots, often longer service runs from the road, sometimes well pumps that need dedicated circuits. PSPS becomes more of a factor as you get further from PG&E infrastructure — generator + battery installations are part of the conversation.

Permits for Aptos go through Santa Cruz County Planning (Aptos is unincorporated). The County's process is slightly more involved than a city like Capitola — but we handle it.

04·Common situations in Aptos

What people here actually call us about.

EV charger install in a 100A-paneled Aptos Village home

Most common Aptos EV call. The panel-load math usually says 'tight or upgrade needed.'

Rio del Mar coastal panel replacement

Salt-air conversation. Same pattern as Capitola + Pleasure Point.

Whole-home generator + battery install for an Aptos Hills home

PSPS-driven. Often coordinated with a propane line or solar install.

Thank you to the Sunrise Electrical Contracting team for updating the new main electrical system on my mom's home after the storm damaged the power lines and home equipment this winter… They replaced Main Service Upgrade Overhead, and added a Sub-Panel Install/Replacement Outdoors… the team of Branden, Jimmy, Ian, and Tylor worked long hours during the storm for a few days to get us up and running again before the next storm arrived.

Storm-damage main service upgrade
Sunrise Electrical rewired our house, replacing the old knob-and-tube wiring with seamless, safe, and up-to-code wiring at a very reasonable price. They were incredibly efficient, worked cleanly, and addressed all our questions and concerns with care. We can't recommend them highly enough!

Branden & his experienced crew installed a Level 2 electric charger together with an extra 240v outlet in our Live Oak garage. They were informed, congenial, & professional and their work was timely and permitted as required by the County. (The cost of the County permit was 53% of the entire project cost — no 5 stars for the County.) I highly recommend Sunrise Electrical!
