“Thank you to the Sunrise Electrical Contracting team for updating the new main electrical system on my mom's home after the storm damaged the power lines and home equipment this winter… They replaced Main Service Upgrade Overhead, and added a Sub-Panel Install/Replacement Outdoors… the team of Branden, Jimmy, Ian, and Tylor worked long hours during the storm for a few days to get us up and running again before the next storm arrived.”
Free Whole-Home Electrical Inspection
We come out, walk every part of your home's electrical, and write you a real report. ~1-2 hours. Free. No obligation. Anywhere in Santa Cruz County.
This isn't a walk-through with a checklist of things we'll quote you on. It's an actual inspection — we look at every part of your home's electrical and write you a real assessment with photos, findings, and recommended next steps.
Capacity, brand, condition, hidden risks
Overhead or underground, mast condition, weatherhead, combination meter main (California's standard integrated enclosure — meter socket + main disconnect + distribution in one unit)
We test a representative sample, including all wet-area GFCIs
Locations, age, expiration dates, code compliance
Every device we test gets actually tested
Fixtures, exterior outlets, exterior panel components, coastal corrosion check where applicable
Could your panel support a charger today? What size?
What about a heat pump? Induction range? Heat pump water heater? What's the path?
Whole-home SPD installed? Worth installing?
Vs. the 2025 California Electrical Code (based on the 2023 NEC), with honest “grandfathered vs. should-update” framing
Specifically, we look for: Federal Pacific panels. Zinsco panels. Knob and tube wiring. Aluminum branch circuits. Coastal corrosion. PSPS-readiness gaps. Insurance-relevant issues.
A real written report — not a sales pitch with line items. Yours to keep, share, refer back to, or shop around with.
- Branded PDF report — walked through with you on site, then emailed
- Prioritized findings with red / yellow / green severity coding
- Photos of every issue — so you can show your insurance carrier, your spouse, or your future home buyer
- Recommended next steps — what to do about each finding, in order of priority
- Estimated cost ranges for the recommended work, pulled from real Sunrise pricing data (per Methodology)
- A keeper artifact — you can refer back to it, share with insurance, use during a home sale, or just file away
Most electricians try to upsell you the second they're on your property. We've found that doing a thorough, honest inspection first — and just telling you what's actually going on with your home — is a better way to do business.
About a third of inspections end with no work scheduled, and that's fine. Some homes don't need anything urgent. Some customers want to think about it, get a second opinion, or wait until their insurance carrier or their EV purchase or their kitchen remodel forces the decision. We're not in a hurry, and we don't pressure-sell.
What we've noticed is that the customers who got the free inspection and didn't book work the first time — they come back. They come back when they're actually ready, and they bring their friends. That's the long game, and it works better than the alternative.
So the inspection is genuinely free, and the report is genuinely useful even if you never hire us. If you do hire us afterward, the inspection gave us everything we need to give you an accurate quote. If you don't, we hope the report is helpful.
— Branden H., owner of Sunrise Electrical Contracting
“Sunrise Electrical rewired our house, replacing the old knob-and-tube wiring with seamless, safe, and up-to-code wiring at a very reasonable price. They were incredibly efficient, worked cleanly, and addressed all our questions and concerns with care. We can't recommend them highly enough!”
“Branden & his experienced crew installed a Level 2 electric charger together with an extra 240v outlet in our Live Oak garage. They were informed, congenial, & professional and their work was timely and permitted as required by the County. (The cost of the County permit was 53% of the entire project cost — no 5 stars for the County.) I highly recommend Sunrise Electrical!”
- One free inspection per single-family residence. Lifetime. If you've already had a free inspection on your home, you can book follow-up service visits or paid inspections.
- Eligible: any Santa Cruz County homeowner — anywhere in our service area, from the coast to the mountains.
- Renters: eligible with written landlord permission (we'd need to inspect electrical that the landlord owns, so we need their okay before scheduling). Exception: in genuine electrical emergencies (sparks, burning smell, no power, etc.), we'll come out at our discretion without waiting for landlord approval.
- Duration: most free inspections take 1-2 hours on-site. Larger homes take longer.
- Written report before we leave — we go through it with you on site, then email a copy to the address you provide.
- No obligation. No pressure to schedule work. No upselling during the inspection. We just inspect, report, and leave.
- Anonymized data: we may use anonymized, aggregate findings — meaning data combined across many homes with NO information that identifies you or your property — for educational content and statistical reporting. Specific anonymized excerpts from your inspection won't be used without your explicit permission. (Per ToS Section 5)
