California's GoGreen Home programme lends against energy-efficiency work. It is worth knowing about before you plan a project, because what qualifies shapes how you sequence the work.
What qualifies
GoGreen Home lends against an energy-efficiency upgrade. For the work we do, that means a heat pump, a heat-pump water heater, induction cooking, EV charging, or solar with storage.
Panel work is where this catches people out. A service upgrade on its own is not an efficiency upgrade, so it does not qualify by itself. It qualifies when it is part of getting one of those in — which it often is, because an older panel is frequently the thing standing between a house and a heat pump.
How the sequencing matters
If you are planning both, it is worth deciding the order before either one starts. Panel work done as part of the upgrade sits inside what can be financed. The same work done a year earlier, on its own, does not.
