Capitola is small, distinctive, and full of houses that don't fit a standard mold. The Capitola Village core is mostly mid-century beach cottages with mid-century panels — Federal Pacific shows up a lot in homes built between 1955 and 1970. Depot Hill above the village has older craftsman + Victorian homes with the knob-and-tube-era electrical that pre-1950 Santa Cruz County homes share. New Brighton and the east side of Capitola lean newer with mostly modernized electrical.
The defining electrical reality in Capitola is the ocean. Salt air does to panels what it does to bikes left in the driveway — corrodes the enclosure, eats the breaker contacts, shortens the service life.
