AHRI — Air-Conditioning, Heating, and Refrigeration Institute

Also known as: AHRI certificationAHRI certificateAHRI directory

AHRI is the industry trade association that certifies the performance of HVAC equipment. AHRI testing verifies a manufacturer's claimed efficiency ratings (SEER2, HSPF2, UEF for water heaters, etc.) against standardized test conditions, producing an AHRI certificate that documents the certified ratings for a specific equipment configuration (indoor unit + outdoor unit combination).

02·Why it matters in Santa Cruz County

Section 25C federal tax credit eligibility depends on the equipment meeting CEE Tier 2 efficiency thresholds. The AHRI certificate is the official documentation proving compliance — your CPA needs it to claim the credit. The HVAC contractor provides the AHRI certificate at install. You can also verify your specific equipment at AHRI Directory.

03·Sunrise's take

We don't provide AHRI certificates because we don't install the equipment. Your HVAC contractor provides them. We mention it here because the AHRI cert is a load-bearing piece of paperwork for Section 25C claims — make sure you receive one at install and file it with your tax records.
