What is considered an electrical emergency?
Below is a list of the most common electrical emergencies. If you’re unsure if you have an unsafe electrical condition in your home please don’t hesitate to call or text us at 831-786-5506 and we’ll get to the bottom of the issue.
Power Outage or Partial Loss of Power
Suddenly lose power? If you have already checked PG&E’s outage map and there is no outage in your area, or you have noticed that your neighbors still have power but you don’t, it could be a sign of a major issue with one of your electrical panels. Don’t hesitate to get ahold of an electrician immediately. Call or text 831-786-5506 now and we can get your electrical problems solved quickly and safely.
Electrical Fire
If you are experiencing an electrical fire please call 911 immediately. If you can do so safely, shut off your home’s main electrical switch (located in your main electrical panel). Never use water to try to put out an electrical fire as water conducts electricity well and you could be shocked or electrocuted.
The most common signs of an electrical fire are smoke, flames, crackling sounds, or a burning smell. Sometimes electrical fires happen in the boxes behind plugs or switches because of loose connections and no visible signs of a fire are noticeable.
According to the National Fire Protection Association, an estimated 32,620 homes in the US are destroyed by electrical fires per year. If you notice any signs of an electrical fire, even just a smell, it’s important that you act quickly.
Storm Damage
Storms and windy weather can cause all kinds of electrical problems. Maybe water made its way into an electrical component like your main panel, or a tree fell on your house leaving live electrical components exposed. Whatever the situation may be, rain or shine, call us and we’ll be out there to make sure you’re safe and taken care of.
Electrical Shock
Have you received a shock from touching a metal appliance in your home? Or perhaps a tingling sensation while touching other exposed metal objects, like plumbing etc. If so, this is a serious electrical hazard and implies that multiple things are wrong with your home’s electrical system. Get ahold of an electrician immediately before you or someone else is hurt or worse.
Humming in Electrical Panel
If your electrical panel or other electrical components in the home are making a humming, buzzing, or popping sound unexpectedly then it’s likely you have a loose connection or bad breaker in your system. What starts off as humming can quickly turn into an electrical fire or panel failure. If you act quickly you might be able to spare yourself a much more costly repair. Reach out to us at 831-786-5506 and we’ll come to diagnose the issue and recommend a solution.
Burning Smell
Are you smelling a plastic-like burning smell in your house but can’t locate the source? This is often caused by overloaded or improperly installed circuitry. If that’s the case then you either already had a small electrical fire somewhere in the house (inside a junction box or in a wall), or are likely to soon. Please get a hold of an electrician immediately as this presents a huge hazard to you and your home.
Flickering Lights
Flickering lights can be caused by a few things in your electrical system. Usually caused by an overloaded circuit or loose connections, these are the same problems that can often lead to electrical fires. If you act quickly you can save yourself a lot of headaches and have the issue fixed before something worse happens.
Downed Power Lines
If you have run across downed power lines, whether on your property or somewhere else, do not go near the lines and call 911 immediately then report the issue to PG&E. Please be very careful as downed lines can electrocute someone from a distance.
If your electrical has any of these issues or any other strange symptoms, don’t hesitate to call our expert electricians any time, day or night, 365 days a year.
